LEGO: Customized Home One Briefing Room

The LEGO Home One set is, of course, fantastic, but there’s a little problem: Ackbar doesn’t have much of an audience for his Death Star attack speech! And even if I did get more Rebel LEGO dudes, they wouldn’t all fit in the briefing room.

Unfortunately, I don’t have the right pieces to build a better-scaled version of the briefing room, but I did begin work on a “sketch model” …

A “sketch model” is just what it sounds like – a LEGO model designed as a “sketch” before building the real thing. Using what pieces I have, and not caring about accuracy as far as colors go, I designed a “circular” briefing room using a lot of hinges, based on the actual set — I did a lot of meticulous screencapping of the actual scene in Return of the Jedi. I only built half of the set, since I can just mirror what I have for the other side. There are still some gaps where pieces should go, but I now have the basic idea.

I am going to need a lot of white pieces for this (and the few white pieces I already have are, disgustingly, old and off-color). It looks like an enormous purchase from the LEGO store might be in my future…

I’ve never really undertaken such a huge LEGO project before — I’ve built big sets, but never designed one on my own like this.

I realize this post doesn’t actually show Ackbar anywhere, and for that, I apologize, but I don’t want Ackbar on my sketch model. I’ll wait to complete the real thing. Only the best for the Admiral.
