Merlin UK Trading Cards

Much thanks to my buddy Jordan, who just added three new trading cards to my Ackbar collection. They are from a 1997 set by Merlin (a subsidiary of Topps), released to commemorate the Special Editions, issued in the UK. As an ignorant American, I’d never even heard of them before. (A full card list, though without pictures, can be found on the Star Wars Trading Cards website here.)

I am now the proud owner of…
— card #87, “Admiral Ackbar Briefs the Rebel Pilots” (called “Mon Mothma and Admiral Ackbar” by the Merlin checklist), which features Ackbar and Mon Mothma on the front as well as the Rebel briefing scene featuring Ackbar on the back,
— card #93, “The Rebel Fleet Jumps to Lightspeed” (called “The Rebel Fleet” by Merlin), which features the Rebel fleet on the front (no Ackbar), though Ackbar is on the back of the card, on the bridge as the Home One jumps to hyperspace,
— and card #102, “Ackbar Watches the Fallen Star Destroyer” (called “Millenniun [sic] Falcon/Int. Death Star” by Merlin), which features the Millennium Falcon on the front (no Ackbar), though Ackbar is on the back of the card, watching as the Executor goes down.

The pictures on the cards aren’t great quality, but they’re neat little cards from a set I was previously unaware of. I don’t have access to a scanner at the moment, so I’m sorry there are no pictures right now.

Thanks again to Jordan!
