Quick note: the exclusive Admiral Ackbar talking plush doll from Celebration VI is now available on ThinkGeek (limited; once they’re gone, they’re gone). Link is here.
I got one from a fellow PSWCS member who attended Celebration VI. Thanks Eric. (His website, Imperial Holocron, is a great Star Wars collecting website. Check it out!)
A trailer has been released for Star Wars Detours, an officially Lucasfilm-licensed animated comedy show by the Robot Chicken folks. Not sure how I feel about it yet, but Ackbar shows up at about 50 seconds in, making some trap jokes. The video is here.
The official Star Wars Celebration VI website now has pictures up of the exclusive merchandise, including the Ackbar items I talked about here.
Here are the pictures of the shirt, the sticker, and the talking doll.
I have completely revamped my Collection List page in what is hopefully an easier-to-read format. Check it out here!
UPDATE (1 August 2012): I also added a list of Quasi-Ackbar Items. This is a list of things I own that involve Ackbar in some way but not prominently enough to count as part of my Ackbar collection, such as novels where Ackbar is a character.
It looks like Celebration VI’s catalog includes some Ackbar stuff. The store catalogs have been arriving with the badges, and although I won’t be going to C6 and didn’t get a catalog, some folks who did get the catalog have posted its contents.
It looks like there are three Ackbar-related items:
Apparel: Admiral Ackbar 2012 Election T-Shirt ($30)
Giftware & Novelty: Admiral Ackbar 2012 Election Bumper Sticker ($4)
Collectibles: Talking Admiral Ackbar Plush ($30)
In my opinion, $30 for a t-shirt is ridiculous price gouging, and since I’m not particularly interested in T-shirts as far as my collection goes, I think I’ll pass on that one. The plush toy, on the other hand… You know how the saying goes. “Shut up and take my money.”
With the Star Wars official website shop now long closed, it might prove difficult for anyone not attending Celebration VI to get these items (or the many other non-Ackbar items as well, of course). I’m not sure what’s going to happen to any leftover merchandise, as the Star Wars website shop used to handle that stuff. So I’d suggest working something out with someone who is attending Celebration VI, as I plan to do.
UPDATE: Links to the pictures are here.
Although there were no big Ackbar-related announcements at San Diego Comic Con ’12 or anything like that, I’ve got high hopes for new Ackbar toys. I have no secret insider information — this is all pure speculation on my part! Don’t take any of this as fact!
My thoughts on future Ackbar products after the jump…
The Star Wars autographs website Wattographs is, as they have been doing since Celebration II, offering fans who cannot attend Celebration VI a chance to get things signed by the guests. You can either get a signed print, or you can actually send in an item to Wattographs (it must be sent in by 15 August) and have them get it signed for you!
Ackbar-related guests at Celebration VI include Tim Rose (the man behind the Ackbar mask in Return of the Jedi) and Tom Kane (who is probably most famous as Yoda in The Clone Wars, but has voiced Ackbar in Star Tours and the video game Battlefront). There are two Tim Rose Ackbar prints in addition to the send-in option.
Check out the Wattographs site for more information.
Sorry once again for the lack of recent updates. I’m hoping to catch up on all the Ackbar news I missed out on posting in the last few months and then start posting more Ackbar stuff on a regular basis once again.
The Clone Wars season 4 (whose first three episodes featured a young Captain Ackbar, which I have discussed on this blog in various places, including here) will be out on DVD and Blu-Ray on 23 October 2012, according to the official Star Wars website announcement here. (The announcement includes a video trailer, which features some clips from the Mon Cala episodes, including an Ackbar line!)
One of the DVD bonus features will be a look at these Mon Cala episodes. Exclusive to the Blu-Ray edition will be a database of concept art, early animation, and extended and deleted scenes. I’m not sure on the details here, but it’s a fair assumption that these Blu-Ray features will probably involve Ackbar somewhere.
I’m not sure if I’m going to buy this, to be honest. It’s not that I don’t enjoy The Clone Wars — I happen to think that, overall, it’s a pretty fun cartoon show, if not in line with the classic Star Wars trilogy I know and love — but I’m not sure if I really need to own the entire fourth season just because its first three episodes had Ackbar in them.
Over a year ago, I posted here that Mimoco would be making an Admiral Ackbar USB drive. Well, I’m pleased to announce (a month late, sorry about that…) that it’s finally here!
You can find them on the official Mimoco site here in various GB sizes. The press release is here and includes a video.
EDITED to add some more information (after the jump):
Hi everyone. Just wanted to reassure you all that I’m still around and I’m still collecting Ackbar; I’ve just been neglecting this blog and for that I apologize.
